The Cornell Ballroom Dance Team came down to the DC area to compete recently at the DC Dancesport Inferno competition. Since it was taking place at the UMD College Park campus, which is only about half an hour from me, I offered to host some of them. Kim, Andy, Mariel, Mirela, and Lauren stayed over at my place, enjoying open foxtrot in my living room, cornbread muffins, and Dr. Seuss bedtime stories.
This was my first experience with attending a competition and not competing. That was a little weird, but I was so excited to see Andy and both of his partners doing so well! Indeed, he and both permutations (Mariel and Mirela) took home high honors. Another notable fun moment was leading Brian in international rumba. Apparently someone got a picture of us dancing, below, though that was when he was showing me how to lead a spin turn in waltz. Boy, a spin turn as a follower is a completely different experience than a spin turn as a leader!
