After the USABDA National Ballroom Dance competition in early August, I headed home to Utah for a visit. These three shots were taken in Castle Valley. On the left is Castle Rock. Even in August, we have green trees in the desert! The middle shot is the view north of my dad's house, and the final picture is a close-up of Jello Mountain. Mars, as it could be, some day.

Next are some pictures taken around my dad's house. First is a pine tree, carefully tended in its non-native valley soil. (They prefer the LaSal Mountains, to the south.) Next, I took some shots of the impressively large (over seven feet tall!) sunflowers in my dad's front yard. Note the bee I caught mid-flight next to the sunflower in the final image.

These pictures were taken in Moab, at my mom's house. First is a group shot of my mom, me, and our good friends Hannah and Roberta. We've known them since we first moved to the area, in 1981. That day was gorgeous -- storm clouds over the eastern cliffs that produced a dazzling double rainbow near sunset.
